BREWING COLD BREW COFFEE USING HARIO MIZUDASHI 1L POT

Cold brew coffee has been known as Dutch Coffee and was cultivated by the Netherlands in Indonesia before the war. At that time the Robusta kind of coffee was used which has a strong bitterness few stimulating components such as caffeine and good drinking mouth. Has deep richness and hard oxidation. Low acidity, sweeter, smoother result. This brewing method by steeping coarsely ground coffee with room temperature water or cold water (recommend using filter water) but not hot water around 12 – 24 hours. During this time, the coffee slowly infuses into the water to result in a strong cold brew coffee. Cold brew coffee is considered to be the strongest coffee compared to hot brew coffee as it contains more caffeine content to help you stay alert. Due to the low acidity of cold brew coffee, it may cause fewer unpleasant digestive and acid reflux symptoms compare to hot brew coffee. Cold brew coffee is different to Iced coffee, iced coffee is a regularly brewed coffee served over ice whereas cold brew coffee is brew with no heat and steep in cold water at least 12 hours.

Here are the parameters on how to brew cold brew coffee with Hario 1L Pot at home:

  • Open the lid and remove the mesh filter
  • Add 800ml of room temperature or cold water (recommend using filter water) into the glass pot
  • Pour prepack grind coffee into the mesh filter
  • Insert the mesh filter into pre-filled 800ml glass pot
  • Slowly pour additional 200ml of room temperature water or cold water (recommend to use filter water) into the ground coffee and let it steep until the water wet all the ground coffee
  • Store in the fridge and let it steep 12 – 24 hours. During this time, the brewing process takes place infuse slowly the coffee
  • Remove the mesh filter and discharge the used grounded coffee. Then, store the ready to drink cold brew coffee in the fridge and consume within 2 weeks.
